FAQ

FIRST TIME TO ZOOM CHARLOTTESVILLE

WHAT SHOULD I DO TO PREPARE FOR MY FIRST CLASS?

You’ll want to arrive about 15 minutes before class time, hydrated and ready to sweat! We have towels and filtered water available for free in studio.   For cycling classes, you are in control of how much resistance you ride with and will get stronger with every class you take.  For Train, Fight, and Sculpt Classes, you will be able to connect with your coach and start at an appropriate level.  All of our classes are beginner accessible and we are a judgement-free zone.

WHERE CAN I PARK?

You can park anywhere in the Barracks Road Shopping Center parking lot (including the lot adjacent to Harris Teeter/OTF) or on Arlington Blvd. in front of the studio.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Wear comfortable clothes designed for exercise.  For cycling, you will moving off and on the bike seat, so skip baggy bottoms.  Fitted biking shorts or leggings are perfect. For train, fight, and sculpt classes, any athletic attire is appropriate as well as athletic shoes that you designate for inside use only.

DO I NEED SPECIAL SHOES?

On the cycle side, to provide a safer and more effective workout, we use specialized cycling shoes that clip in to the bike at Zoom.  We have rental shoes available in all sizes for a fee of $2 cash ($2.75 account charge) per class.  For those bringing your own shoes, our bikes are compatible with SPD and Look Delta cleats.  Finally, we also offer Giro and Tiem cycle shoes for sale, and if we don’t have your size in stock, shoe rental is free until they arrive. For the train and sculpt side, regular athletic sneakers are appropriate for class, just make sure they are clean and preferably shoes you wear inside only.

NEW TO CYCLING

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING A SIGNATURE RIDE45 CLASS?

Our signature 45-minute ride is a high-energy cardio party. We ride to the beat at Zoom.  Instructors guide you through challenging hills, sprints, and intervals while incorporating core-shredding choreography. Hand weights are used to sculpt and tone arms, shoulders and back.

WHAT KIND OF BIKES DO YOU HAVE?

We use Schwinn’s top of the line AC Performance Plus with Carbon Blue.  We also have M3 Power Consoles on each bike so that you can track your performance.  If you choose to use the console, your ride data will automatically be saved after every cycle class you attend.

HOW CAN I TRACK MY PROGRESS?

You will see fast results if you commit to coming to class several times a week.  We have also invested in technology so you can measure your progress with metrics.  Our bikes are equipped to track your performance while you ride: time, RPMs, calories burned, distance, power generated, and timed intervals.  This information will be directly available in your online account for every ride you attend.  If you are a numbers person, this is the perfect way to quantify your efforts.

ARE THE BIKES ADJUSTABLE?

Absolutely. If you’re new to our studio, arrive 15 minutes early so we can get you set up.  Each bike offers four adjustments:

1. Seat height

2. Seat position: forward/back

3. Handlebar Height

4. Handlebar position:forward/back

WILL THE SADDLE HURT MY BUTT AND HOW LONG UNTIL IT GOES AWAY?

Seriously, this is one of the top questions we get from new riders!  New riders are often sore after their first few cycling classes. This will go away after your first initial rides.  The muscles and tendons in your rear just take some time to get used to the new pressure from riding in the saddle. We also have gel seat covers free to use which can help ease you into your new exercise routine.

IM PREGNANT, CAN I PARTICIPATE IN INDOOR CYCLE CLASS?

Congratulations!  We would love to see you in our classes, but prefer that you check with your doctor first.  We have instructors and clients who have seen great benefits from cycling during their pregnancy because it is low impact, easy on the joints, and increases your endurance.  Our expert instructors can always provide modifications for you to ensure that you’re completely comfortable.

NEW TO SCULPT

WHAT MAKES ZOOM SCULPT45 CLASS UNIQUE?

Sculpt 45 is Zoom’s newest class offering, which targets the entire body in an efficient 45 minute class. The class flow is very similar to a beat driven cycle class, but instead of riding to the beat you are moving and pulsing to the beat of the music while toning your entire body.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING A SCULPT45 CLASS?

Class is designed to move quickly so that your heart rate is elevated the entire 45 minutes. The class is approximately 15 minutes of upper body, 15 minutes of lower body, and 15 minutes of core work. Of course, we always add in cardio and provide options to level up!  This class is appropriate for all fitness levels.

HOW WILL SCULPT45 COMPLIMENT CYCLE CLASSES?

Cycle (cardio) and Sculpt classes (strength) give you a positive balance needed to achieve your optimal lifestyle. Attending Sculpt45 classes regularly can help you build strength, increase your flexibility, improve your posture, and more. In order to be successful in any athletic/physical endeavor,  you must have both cardio and strength components in your routine.  All who participate in cycle should have strength or sculpt regime as a part of their exercise routine.

WHAT KIND EQUIPMENT IS USED DURING CLASS?

We use dumbbells, body weight, resistance bands, Bala bangles (hand and ankle weights), and a squishy ball.  All equipment is optional and highly encouraged to get the best results.

Our free guest lockers have coded locks to keep your belongings safe.   Simple instructions are on the door of each locker and also posted around the room. If you prefer to take your stuff into the room, we have wire baskets beside each bike.  This is a covid safety measure to avoid gathering in the lobby area.

WHAT ABOUT SHOES?

To ensure an effective and safe ride, our cycles accommodate “clip in” shoes, which allow you to transfer power efficiently with each pedal stroke, plus move out of the saddle safely to work your arms and abs.  Our pedals are compatible with SPD and Look Delta cleats.  If you don’t have those, don’t worry.  We have rental shoes available for $2/ride (cash price – $2.75 account charge) thereafter.
